What Was the First Riddim Ever Made?

It's all about Riddims when it comes to Dancehall and reggae nowadays.

New Riddims are released every week, possibly every few days.

But the question remains, what was the first Riddim to ever release? Riddim in terms of, a Riddim with multiple artists that are intentionally on the same instrumental; NOT a single that later became a riddim.

After speaking to Teacha Dee about this, an ex-teacher in Science in Mathematics and now popular Reggae artist, he brings up a valid point. The first Riddim released may not necessarily the first Riddim created. Some riddims are worked on for several years before actual release. However, we do know when the first reggae record was released. The year 1968, Larry And Alvin’s ‘Nanny Goat’ and the Beltones’ ‘No More Heartaches’ was released as the first ever reggae record. However, they are on different instrumentals, so technically this is not the first riddim ever released.

Vybz Kartel - Trial End... The verdict is....

GUILTY ! Vybz Kartel Convicted Of Murder.

Adidja Palmer – GUILTY
Shawn Campbell – GUILTY
Kahira Jones – GUILTY
Shane Williams – Not GUILTY
Andre St John – GUILTY

Earlier today it was discovered that one of the eleven member (11) juror was involved in a 500,000 bride offered to some of the female jurors, it was then reported to the judge and he is now on the verge of being arrested for 'perverting the course of justice'.

Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, was moments ago found guilty of murdering his former associate Clive “Lizard” Williams.

The news sent shockwaves throughout the dancehall community as the entertainer is looking at spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Jamaican authorities stunned everyone when they swoop down on a hotel in Kingston on September 30, 2011 and arrested Vybz Kartel and several other men.

Weeks later the aced dancehall star was slapped with not one but two murder charges. He was acquitted for the murder of Barrington “Bossie” Burton in July last year.

After over two years and several delays, the trial for the murder of Clive Williams got underway on November 18, 2013 in the Home Circuit court in Kingston.

The prosecution, headed by attorney Jeremy Taylor, took 46 days and 24 witnesses to build its case against the “Dancehall Hero” deejay. The Crown argued that Vybz Kartel, his protege Shawn “Storm” Campbell, friends Kahira Jones, AndrĂ© St John, and Shane Williams all participated in the beating death Clive “Lizard” Williams over two missing firearms belonging to the deejay.

The alleged murder took place on August 16, 2011 at a house on Swallowfield Road in Havendale believed to be owned by Vybz Kartel.

Clive Williams body has yet to be found.

To help make their case, the prosecution introduced several damning evidences including text messages, voice notes, Blackberry Messenger messages and video footage.

The Crown also had the help of an informant who says he accompanied Clive Williams to the house in Havendale on the day of his disappearance. The star witness, Llamar Chow, says he escaped from the house after seeing his friend lifeless body on the floor.

He told the court that he saw one of the accused men with a building block in his hand.

The defense maintained that the entire case was fabricated by the police force with the help of the informant to secure a high profile conviction.

Senior police officer Patrick Linton admitted in court that one of the Blackberry smartphones that police officers extracted data from was being used while it was in the custody of his department at the cyber crime unit.

The defense asked the judge to exclude the phone and its data from the evidence but presiding judge Lennox Campbell rejected the motion and accepted the incriminating data into evidence.

Presiding judge Lennox Campbell took six days to give the 11-member jury his summation of the lengthy murder trial.

Justice Campbell told the jury to not find the dancehall artiste guilty based on the content of his lyrics. But focus solely on the evidence presented by the prosecution.

Mr. 'Sleng Teng' Wayne Smith Has Died.

Wayne 'Sleng Teng' Smith Has Died.

Smith was admitted to the KPH Friday after complaining of stomach pains. An autopsy will be done to determine the exact cause of death. Wayne Smith was age 48 at the time of his death.

Originally from Waterhouse, Smith started his career in 1980 with producer Lloyd 'King Jammys' James who produced ‘Under mi Sleng Teng’ four years later.

‘Under mi Sleng Teng’ was orchestrated by Smith and musician Noel Davey on an inexpensive Casio keyboard. It was first played at dances on James' sound system and got such strong response that James released the song in late 1984.

‘Under mi Sleng Teng’ was a trailblazer, triggering dancehall's digital age. It was Smith's biggest hit, though he enjoyed more chart success with songs like ‘Ain't no Meaning in Saying Goodbye’ and ‘Come Along’.

Smith, who operated the Sleng Teng label, is survived by his mother, May Coley, five children, three grandchildren, and five brothers and sisters.

UPDATE: Vybz Kartel's Trial in a Nutshell

With so many updates and information on the trial, it's difficult to keep up.

Here is a general update:

Adidja "Vybz Kartel" Palmer, Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, AndrĂ© St John, and Shane Williams are on trial for the alleged murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, who authorities say was killed on August 16, 2011 over two missing guns belonging to the dancehall star.

1. The trial is expected to end this week (Feb. 17, 2014), according to Lennox Campbell, the presiding judge.

2. The last bit of evidence currently in the trial is a letter written by a star witness named Lamar Chow. A handwriting expert was recently called to the witness stand by the defense; he confirmed the letter was not fake, and was indeed written by Lamar Chow. The prosecution is arguing that the letter is a forgery, but the defense is saying it is legitimate. Here is the letter:

3. The Vybz Kartel Trial is now "The Longest Running Trial In Jamaica’s Court History." The prosecution presented a case over 45 days with 24 witness making their case that Kartel and his co-accused beat Clive “Lizard” Williams on August 16, 2011.

4. The body which has yet to be found.

6. Vybz Kartel's last statement to the court suggests that he is innocent of the crime he is accused of committed. Read below.

I am a normal person like anyone else. I am innocent of all these charges brought against me as a matter of fact I have never been to 7 Swallowfield Avenue and seen Lizard there – the man called Clive Williams.

In fact my Lord, the only time I encountered that person called Clive Williams, is when he travelled with Shawn [co-accused Shawn Storm] to stage shows but we never encounter my Lord.

My Lord, the incident that occurred on September 30, 2011 (the date of his arrest) I was at a hotel in New Kingston when the police took me and a female companion.

My Lord they handcuffed us and took us downstairs in the lobby. Other police officers and members of the media were already there.

My Lord after that [I] was taken to Central Kingston Police Station.

After that the police escorted me to my house in St. Andrew, two houses as a matter of fact – one house at Swallow Avenue and then to my mother’s house in Portmore, St. Catherine – where the house was searched.

I was then moved to Spanish Town Road.

Even most recently, the Minister of National Security Minister, the Honourable Peter Bunting took my music and my image to the State, my Lord claiming that Vybz Kartel’s lyrics, My Lord, is generating scamming.

Even in Jamaica at one point, the Minister said there were four essential factors mashing up Jamaica and I was one of them.

My Lord, if that is not prejudicial against my case, I don’t know what is.

My Lord, I bleach my skin, I am heavily tattooed also but that is merely superficial. That is a part of the persona of Vybz Kartel not Adidja Palmer.

I am a normal person like anyone else; I even have a family who are here today… grandmother, cousin, mother-in law. My Lord my hands are clean of Clive Williams’ blood if indeed Clive Williams is deceased, My Lord.

I have never sent anyone to kill Clive Williams, My Lord, nor did I do so myself. I am an innocent man, My Lord, that is all I have to say.

What will Vybz Kartel's fate be? Stay tuned.
